The World Is Watching Does The U.S. Need U.N. Election Monitors

Has anyone notice there is never a problem with electronic voting when a voter votes for the republican candidate John McCain or George Bush in 2004. Perhaps this is why most of America did not sleep last night. The anxiety of voting, the anxiety with respect to the outcome. Voting in America has begun and ending in some polls and reports of election problems from wet ballots in Virginia to electronic voting machines having difficulty in securing a vote for Barack Obama, hours long lines to cast a vote.

The Obama campaign and independent groups sent out legions of attorneys to make sure voters rights were protected. If the U.S were a third world nation and given the controversy surrounding the presidential elections in 2000 and 2004 there would probably be calls for independent observers to determine the fairness of the election. Does the U.S need outside observers such as the United Nations.

The answer depends on whether this election is viewed as a fair election. If voters feel that the election was taken from people there will be call for changes to the way America votes. Perhaps federal law prohibiting electronic voting in federal elections or standardized federal ballots and methods to count the ballots.
