Conversations About Race and Racism

It is not surprising that Republicans on the right cannot see the difference between Trent Lott's comments in support of Strom Thurman's segregationist run for President and Harry Reid's comments on the electability of Barrack Obama from a white perspective. Not all conversations about race are racist but there are racist conversations. Harry Reid's comments about Obama fall into the category of a conversation about race. In a nation where race is not capable of being discussed openly and honestly. To factually state that Obama speaks without a Negro accent and is light skinned and thus more likeable to a white electorate, given the history of race in America is not worded correctly but nonetheless accurate. President Obama also stated that the words used by Reid were unfortunate and that Reid has been a champion of civil rights.

The Republican party led by Michael Steele are playing games and seeking to score political points. Playing games, while people are suffering in America. While formerly middle class Americans are setting up tent cities. While formerly middle class Americans are relying on food banks and praying for a job. The Republican party is playing games with race. A game they can never win. Because if they continue, the TV pundits will look into the unpublished off the record statements of some of their members. They do not want that. Perhaps pundits will look into Michael Steele and his alleged efforts to suppress the black vote in Maryland in 2006.
