Barack Obama Winner (At Last)

Barack Obama has become the first African American Presidential nominee for a major political party in 232 years since the founding of the republic, in 142 years since the end of slavery, and in 44 years since the end of American apartheid. Although Hillary did not actually concede the night in which he clinched the nomination a few days later Hillary gave a resounding speech in support and full endorsement of Barack Obama. The trick is to get her supporters, some of whom feel it was Hillary's turn, to now support Obama.

Now the nominee, Obama must turn all his attention to the general election. Obama must be prepared to take the gloves off in ways and manners that he shied away from in battling Hillary Clinton. His nice guy approach could come off as weak against John McCain. He has already received pointed and sharp criticism from John McCain on his foreign policy positions. Particularly, Obama's willingness to use diplomacy as a weapon. However, Obama quickly showed that he is more than ready to go toe to toe with McCain on National Security by challenging him on the War in Iraq. McCain has already stated his support for the war in Iraq and his willingness to keep troops there for 100 years or longer.

Also, now that the democratic nomination is over maybe the media will examine John McCain a bit closer than Obama's former pastor. McCain has admitted that he has no knowledge of the economy when he said, with a backdrop of empty warehouses in Ohio, that NAFTA has been good for Ohio, when it has been a nightmare. He was originally against Bush's horrific tax cuts for the wealthy in a time of war, but while seeking the republican nomination changed his position and now supports the tax cuts. He has no plan for the national health care nightmare, where millions of American have no health care and millions more are denied the coverage they have already paid for. After eight more years of reagaonomics the economy is tanking - memo to the American people: Tax cuts to the rich does not grow the economy. It makes them wealthier. Thats it.

Outrageous gas prices, rising food prices, and an uncertain job market will make economic issues the central issue in the November election, not Iraq and unfortunately not the criminal regime of the Bush administration, whose criminality it seems will be relegated to history and political science professors to dissect.
