It is important for Obama who is ahead in most national polls and many swing states to, in this final presidential debate, do exactly what he has
been doing, being presidential. He is respectful of his opponent respectful of the moderators and respectful of the intelligence of the American people.
It is important that Obama not let up in the final three weeks of the campaign but to use a sports metaphor he needs to Mike Jordan him. Obama needs to drop 50 or 60 on him. He needs to show that he is the President-elect talking about real serious issues that matter. On healthcare Obama can dunk on him by stating the fact that, if McCain was a private citizen, and did not receive governement paid for healthcare, McCain's healthcare plan would not cover, John McCain, he is such a maverick that his healthcare plan would not cover himself and that the Obama plan would cover the John McCain's out there.
McCain and Palin keep bringing up loose associations between Obama and a guy named Ayers. A guy who Obama served on a board with on a well known Republican sponsored foundation. A distraction because the Republicans can not talk about the economy or a way forward for America because they like things the way they are. They can bring up Obama's assoication with a voter registration organization called ACORN, an organization that McCain spoke in front of in support of immigration reform. Republican's who have tried to suppress voter turnout for 40 years are accusing Democrats of registration fraud. There is a diffence betwenn signing up Micky Mouse to vote and illegally removing African Americans from voter rolls. The differnce is Micky Mouse will not show up to vote and as was the case in Florida and Ohio, many African Americanas who did nothing wrong showed up to vote but was criminally removed.
McCain rightfully corrected a grossly ignorant person in his audience who insisted Obama was really an Arab. This is the level of the McCain support. Obama a Harvard educated attorney, former law professor at the conservative University of Chicago, former state senator, current United States Senator from the fifth largest state in the Union and McCain Palin supporters are reduced to right wing internet lies. What's next, McCain supporters accusing Obama of being from Mars, becuase they read it online?
So what is the McCain campaign left with...they are left with personal attacks, they are left with the Reverened Wright comments which are tricky becuase Obama does not go to that
church anymore and it is racially charged. Also it is tricky to play the assoication game because McCain has had associations with religious men who have said inflamatory things rivaling Wright and Sarah Palin's assoication with a witchdoctor pastor, and an anti-American Alaskan independence party, discussed on the blogoshere, would receive mainstrean attention.
All the while the American people look for leadership and solutions on the economy and healthcare.
