John McCain and Sarah Palin's Confusing Positions on Open Borders, Amnesty and NAFTA are bad for American Workers

Before it became politically expedient for John McCain to change his position on immigration he was in favor of some form of amnesty for for those who have crossed the border illegally. Once he began his run for President McCain claimed that he got the message that Americans wanted border security first. But because he got the message on border security does not mean he has changed his position on the free movement of people and goods in North America in other words open borders and NAFTA. So McCain and by extension his Vice Presidential pick Sarah Palin are in favor of well more of the same with respect to immigration (we're actually not sure about Palin's position no one gets to ask her questions). Some conservatives even refer to McCain as Juan McCain because of his immigration positions.

Unfiltered free trade and open borders has done nothing but hurt the American worker by eliminating manufacturing jobs and driving down wages. This has been especially the case in swing states like Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico and Indiana. Whether or not immigration and other reasons that led some populist Ron Paul Republicans to be skeptical of McCain remains to be seen.

McCain may have satisfied the evangelical base with the Palin pick but he still is at odds with many in his party on the issue of immigration, open borders, amnesty, NAFTA and seeding more of American sovereignty to institutions like the WTO. McCain has told workers in Ohio and Michigan that there jobs are not coming back. He makes claims that he is pro worker but he has been anti- workers organizing to get better wages and working conditions most of his career. He has voted 19 times against an increase in minimum wages a record he cannot put lipstick on. In every scenario where there is corporate interest versus the common man McCain sides with the corporate interest including when it comes to immigration. Corporations can higher illegals at lower wages exploit their status and hurt the American worker.

McCain got booed off a stage in Michigan for suggesting that immigrants do jobs that Americans would not do. He suggested that Americans would not accept $50 an hour to pick tomatoes. Talk about being out of touch. Who wouldn't accept $50 an hour or $100,00 a year to pick tomatoes. McCain with his 9 homes, 13 cars, the excellent socialist health care he receives paid for by you (it is unlikely that McCain would qualify for private health insurance given his preexisting ailments). (It would be great if a reporter would ask McCain if he thinks he would qualify for private health insurance). But we digress. McCain's positions on open borders and trade agreements like NAFTA along with rising U.S. unemployment is whats really dangerous for Americans.

As the mainstream media fell for the distraction that is Sarah Palin the American worker continues to suffer as a result of the Bush economic policies of giving money to the rich the rich keeping their money and squeezing the middle class until there is no middle class. Their ideal society seems to be India or Brazil with few concentrated powers of wealth controlling the government, military, financial institutions and you through the media.

No one is sure what the immigration policy would be in a McCain-Palin administration but one thing is sure it will not be good for American workers.
