Ten Organizations To Support This Holiday Season (or any season)
This year and every year BlackState encourages you to give during the holiday season if not financially then give some of your time to organizations, schools, churches and other community organizations.
Here are ten organizations that we recommend supporting in no particular order, (we receive no kickbacks whatsoever for our shout out) and as always we are heavy in the support of African centered schools and academies.
Nsoroma Institute Public School Academy is an Afrikan-Centered learning community guided by a philosophy which seeks to develop within our children and adults insight into their individual gifts, talents and missions, and connect us with the rich and diverse historical and cultural legacies of Afrikan peoples.
Growing Power Mission: Growing Power inspires communities to build sustainable food systems that are equitable and ecologically sound, creating a just world, one food-secure community at a time.
Roots Public Charter School Mission: Promote and secure the connection of mother Africa within our children; Prepare students to break the chains of psychological conditioning that attempts to keep them powerless in all phases of society; Provide students with a strong African-centered learning environment; Guide students toward academic excellence, exemplary character and social responsibility; Encourage success leading to self-reliance and economical, social and political contributions to society.
Community Services Unlimited Mission: Our mission is to foster the creation of communities actively working to address the inequalities and systemic barriers that make sustainable communities and self-reliant life-styles unattainable. We are committed to supporting and creating justice-driven community based programs and educational initiatives, which seek to foster dialogue, and create awareness and critical consciousness.
Black Aids Institute is the first Black HIV/AIDS policy center dedicated to reducing HIV/AIDS health disparities by mobilizing Black institutions and individuals in efforts to confront the epidemic in their communities.
The Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund was formed to provide free and affordable legal services to community-based groups and local governments working to protect their quality of life and the natural environment through building sustainable communities.
Concerned Black Men National Organization CBM’s vision was to fill the void of positive black male role models in many communities by providing mentors and programs that affirmed the care and discipline that all youth need, while providing opportunities for academic and career enrichment. While the vision of CBM’s founding members has expanded to include children and their parents nationwide, the philosophy of men offering themselves as positive role models to children has remained CBM’s mission for more than 30 years.
New Orleans Habitat for Humanity brings families and communities in need together with volunteers and resources to build decent, affordable houses.
Federation of Southern Cooperatives Mission: We strive toward the development of self-supporting communities with programs that increase income and enhance other opportunities; and we strive to assist in land retention and development, especially for African Americans, but essentially for all family farmers.
